Saya Kubota

Artist

Born in Ibaraki Prefecture in 1987, graduated from University of Tsukuba where she majored in art. She completed a fine art doctoral course in oil painting at Tokyo University of the Arts. An important element of her work is the new images and shapes generated by a combination of memories and words from casual everyday scenes and encounters with people. She continues to create works using different media in different ways, sometimes cross-breeding them — for example, two-dimensional works in which layers of scorched tracing paper are stacked; three dimensional pieces fusing old artifacts and curios with decorative objects; and installations featuring her own unique devices. Solo exhibitions include “Material Witness” (Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation, London), and the Missing Post Office project initiated at the 2013 Art Setouchi Triennale.
