Kouo Uehara

Born in Okinawa in 1982, Uehara graduated from the Department of Intermedia Art (Graduate School of Fine Arts) of Tokyo University of the Arts in 2010.
Creates community murals and art projects while engaging in long-term research at sites far removed from the usual platforms of museums and galleries, such as city streets, shopping districts, closed elementary schools, illegal dumping grounds, and housing complexes.
Since 2011, he has been working as a part-time employee at psychiatric facility Fukuroda Hospital in the northern part of Ibaraki Prefecture. From Uehara’s base of Atelier Holos inside the hospital, he gives creative support to outpatients, and plans and runs the art festival that is held at the hospital.
