Maru Works

After opening as an unauthorized welfare workshop in Minami-ku in Fukuoka City in 1997, Maru Works was established as NPO Maru in 2007. Currently, its 50 or so disabled members are primarily engaged in creative activities like painting or ceramics. The sharing of time, space and company by diverse people at Maru Works raises the question of what disability really means, and expands the community of people who want an inclusive society. As well as the production and sale of pictures and illustrations, members’ creations are used in a variety of ways, for example on licensed goods/ cross-promotional merchandise.
