Masataka Baba

President, Open A Ltd. / Director, Real Public Estate
Born in Saga Prefecture in 1968. Completed the architecture course at Waseda University Graduate School in 1994. After working on projects including expositions and showrooms at the advertising company Hakuhodo, Baba returned to Waseda for its doctoral course. After a period as editor in chief of “A” magazine, in 2003 he founded Open A Ltd. His activities include architectural design, city planning, and writing. In the same period, he launched Real Tokyo Estate. Baba became an associate professor in 2008, and a professor in 2016, at Tohoku University of Art and Design. His recent architectural projects include the Re-Building Project (from 2014), the Yanagimachi Historical Area Renovation Project in Saga Prefecture (2015), and ShibamataFU-TEN (2017). Recent books include Public Design (2015), Area Renovation (2016), and Creative Local Area Renovation, Overseas Version (2017), all published by Gakugei Publishing.
