Tohru Nakazaki


Artist, born in Ibaraki Prefecture in 1976. Studied in the doctoral degree program at Musashino Art University Graduate School of Art and Design; withdrew from the course in the second half, having completed all coursework. Nakazaki is currently based in Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture. He explores the dissonances that occur within our shared experiences of words and images. Using natural and flexible creative approaches, he works in a variety of formats including performance, video and installation. His creations range widely, with the signboard as a frequent motif. In 2006 Nakazaki formed the group Nadegata Instant Party (consisting of himself, Daisuke Yamashiro and Tomoko Noda), in which he is still active. He is also involved in the operation of Playroom (made up of Nakazaki and Mizuki Endo), founded at the end of 2007.
